Professor / Associate Professor / Assistant Professor
The Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) under the Faculty of Engineering at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) is seeking a tenure-track faculty member at Assistant Professor or higher level. We provide an excellent multi-disciplinary environment to encourage research collaboration within and outside the Department.
Building upon a strong record in multidisciplinary BME research, the Faculty of Engineering in close collaboration with the Faculty of Medicine is offering BME programmes at levels from Bachelor of Engineering to Doctor of Philosophy. The BEng and MPhil/PhD programmes are hosted in BME with academic contributions from different disciplines.
The Department is looking for an excellent candidate with various engineering underpinnings in the areas of (i) biomolecular engineering & nanomedicine and (ii) biomedical imaging and informatics. Applicants should have a relevant PhD degree and a good scholarly record demonstrating potential for teaching and research excellence.
The successful candidate will be expected to (a) develop a significant independent research programme with external funding; (b) supervise postgraduate students; (c) teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses; and (d) perform duties for the Department and the University.
Appointment will normally be made on contract basis up to three years commencing as soon as possible, which subject to performance and mutual agreement, may lead to longer-term appointment or substantiation later. Substantive appointment at Professor rank may be considered for outstanding candidates with proven records.

Research Assistant Professor
Post Specification
Leading the way in Hong Kong, the Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) stands as the first BME department in the region. Established in 2017, we have been dedicated to fostering excellence in research. In the 2022 Shanghai Ranking of Academic Subjects, CUHK's Biomedical Engineering was honored as the top 13 globally (No. 1 in Hong Kong). We are inviting applications for the position of Research Assistant Professor. The primary areas of research span across the exciting fields of neuroscience, synthetic biology, molecular biology, cell biology, and bioengineering.

Salary and Contract Details
Salary will be commensurate with the applicant’s qualifications and experience. Appointment will initially be made on contract basis for up to three years commencing July 2024, renewable subject to performance and mutual agreement.
Requirements
Applicants should possess a PhD degree in biological sciences or related areas, preferably in neuroscience, molecular biology, cell biology, synthetic biology, or bioengineering. Candidates should demonstrate a strong track record of lab-based research, as evidenced by high-quality publications, and must be proficient in both written and spoken English. Solid postdoctoral training is essential, unless the applicant can demonstrate exceptional research achievements. Experience in independently leading high-quality and innovative research projects is required, and success in research grant applications will be considered an advantage.
Research Directions
The position will focus on the development and application of novel tools, leveraging synthetic biology or optogenetics approaches, (1) to answer fundamental questions in neuroscience, molecular biology, or cell biology, and (2) to construct novel therapeutic strategies. The specific research projects can be tailored and discussed with project leaders, based on the applicant’s expertise, interests, and previous experience.

- Conducting research and development within the theme mentioned above
- Writing and publishing top papers
- Co-supervising and mentoring students at both undergraduate and graduate levels/li>
- Collaborating and engaging with a multidisciplinary team
- Assisting in grant writing or applying for external grants independently
